How to Get your cdl permit

What is a CDL Permit (CLP)?

Before enrolling in our CDL training program, you’ll need to obtain your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). This permit allows you to legally operate a commercial vehicle under supervision while you complete your CDL training. A CLP is good for 12 months.

Steps to Obtain Your CLP:

  1. Study the Ohio CDL Manual – It covers all the material needed for the written test. –> Click Here for the Manual.
  2. Pass the Written Test – It focuses on 3 sections:  General knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. Visit any Ohio BMV to take the test.

Requirements to Apply:

  • Must be 18+ with a valid driver’s license.
  • Proof of U.S. residency.
  • Medical certification.

Why Is the CLP Important?

The CLP is your gateway to CDL training. Without it, you can’t practice on commercial vehicles during the course. Ensure you have your CLP ready before starting our program.
